An effective home burglar alarm performs several tasks. Let's see the main ones together.
First of all, the detection of the break-in. The forcing of closing systems or safety devices can be detected already outside the apartment and in any case inside. With outdoor motion detectors, intruders are detected and the signal is sent via radio to the control unit which immediately makes the shutters lower, or closes the shutters, in order to protect the house. Indoor motion detectors, on the other hand, are installed in sensitive areas of the house, such as near doors and windows (window alarm sensors). These elements communicate any attempted intrusion by radio to the control panel.
The warning is fundamental. For example, if the perimeter alarm is triggered, the central unit can immediately and automatically send a message to the selected people, via SMS or through other customized systems. However, the so-called pre-warning was seen to be very effective, which instructs the intruder to flee without alarming the entire neighborhood (turning on the flashing lights and the external siren). This causes the attacker to be aware of the existence of the anti-intrusion system and decide to desist to avoid the consequences. The complete activation of the alarm, if the intrusion persists, sounds the sirens at full volume and the central unit automatically sends a message to the selected people. Internal and external sirens are the main devices to discourage intruders and to alert the neighborhood. The sound of the siren disturbs and puts the intruder on the run, the flash indicates the place where intrusion occurs.
The control unit is the brain of the security system and receives radio messages from all connected elements. It allows you to activate and deactivate the alarm system both at home and remotely via an internet connection. Then badges, remote controls and smartphones can be used to activate and deactivate the alarm, partially or completely. You can receive the feedback of the commands sent and manage the entire home alarm system even remotely.
In short, an alarm system is composed of many parts and each of these contributes to make up the entire system. However, it is not just a matter of choosing the most emblazoned home alarm kit but instead of designing a solution that takes into consideration all the peculiarities of the case and "solves" them one by one, decreasing the "risk surface" to which it is subjected. Consequently, thinking of managing the selection process based on the price and popularity of a product does not ensure that we get the best. The best is obtained by experimenting from time to time with new solutions, discarding the less functional ones.
